Arizona’s newest pro hockey team has unveiled the uniforms they’ll wear during their inaugural season in the American Hockey League.
As the top-level affiliate of the NHL’s Arizona Coyotes, the Tucson Roadrunners (previously the Springfield Falcons) went with a colour scheme very similar to the Coyotes but in a nice, unexpected nod to the past, the team are wearing uniforms based on the old Phoenix Roadrunners of the International League, originally worn from 1989-97.
For their primary dark jersey the Roadrunners are going with a brick red base with a black shoulder yoke, red collar and copper neck tab. On both arms and around the waist we see alternating copper, white, and black stripes. A single copper stripe appears at the cuff. Nameplates are black, Philadelphia Flyers style, with white lettering; numbers white with black trim on the back and plain white on the sleeve. The left shoulder uses the Coyotes own shoulder patch, the State of Arizona map design with the flag and “AZ” inside of it, the opposite shoulder is a patch of the Coyotes primary logo. Helmets are brick red.
The light jerseys are white with a brick red shoulder yoke and black collar. Stripes are red/copper/black on both arms and around the waist, with a brick red stripe at the sleeve cuff. Name plate is brick red with white letters, numbers are red with black trim on the back and just plan red on the sleeves. Helmets are white.
The primary crest changes colours on each jersey, the brick red roads features a white outline around the entire logo and has the “ROADRUNNERS” wordmark in black. The home whites has this wordmark in sand/beige with black trim.
Note we didn’t designate either jersey as home or road, this is because the AHL now switches what’s worn at home and on the road halfway through the season. Teams begin with white at home for the first half, then switch to dark at home for the second.
The team also announced they would wear three special promotional jerseys during the season, a military appreciation night on November 5th, University of Arizona night on January 13th and 14th, and a breast cancer awareness set on March 18th.
