The Boston Bruins today announced that their 2016 Winter Classic uniform would be their new alternate uniform for the 2016-17 season. The announcement was snuck into their pre-game notes ahead of their home opener to be held later today.
Boston’s Winter Classic jersey is black with two thick yellow (they call it gold) stripes on each sleeve and one around the waist. The collar is in a faux-sweater style, somewhat similar to how the uniforms of the 1920s would’ve looked.
On the chest is the Bruins original logo from their 1924-25 expansion season. The entire uniform is an homage to that inaugural season design except re-coloured to the modern Bruins colour scheme — the original Bruins wore brown as their primary colour, they didn’t switch that to black until 1934.
This uniform replaces the existing Bruins alternate sweater which, in a sense, a modernized version of this same uniform. Black with yellow and white stripes on each arm, none around the waist, and a 21st century version of the logo on the chest. Boston had worn this alternate uniform since the 2008-09 season.
