Orange’cha glad the NHL is switching to Adidas next season?
SportsLogos.Net has learned via multiple sources that the Edmonton Oilers will be promoting their orange alternate uniforms to be their full-time home uniform in 2017-18. This means the existing (and classic) blue home jerseys will not be worn as the NHL will be doing away with alternate uniforms for the 2017-18 season.
Edmonton introduced the orange alternate jerseys last season and they made their debut while being presented to number one draft pick Connor McDavid, the Oilers then wore the jerseys during their inaugural home game at the new Rogers Arena and during the outdoor Heritage Classic in Winnipeg both this past October. As you can see there’s a clear pattern of the uniform being worn during recently historically important moments for the team.
The uniform is based off of the first uniforms in franchise history, during their years in the World Hockey Association in the early 1970s.
We’re not sure yet if any other team will be swapping alts for homes, a report earlier today suggested the Minnesota Wild had yet to make up their mind about whether they’d be going red or green in 2017-18.
