It’ll be a bird of a different colour in Toronto this coming season.
Reliable sources have confirmed to us at SportsLogos.Net that the Toronto Blue Jays will introduce a new red alternate uniform for the upcoming 2017 season and that it is expected to be worn every Sunday home game. Thanks to a Tweet from Sportsnet’s Ben Nicholson-Smith we’ve also learned that this new uniform is expected to be unveiled by the team this coming Friday, January 20th.

While we haven’t gotten a look at the new combo ourselves it sounds as if it’s a very similar look to what the Blue Jays have worn on Canada Day and for their annual Baseball Canada Day promotions in recent seasons.
The cap has been described to us as being red, but not the standard red cap (the one with only a maple leaf on it) we’d seen the past two seasons, instead it’s said to feature the Blue Jays logo on the front.
Toronto has worn a red jersey nearly annually since the 1996 season to commemorate Canada’s national holiday on the First of July. Beginning in 2013 the Blue Jays added a second game to wear red in honour of the national baseball program. Canada is celebrating it’s sesquicentennial year in 2017, it’s possible that the season-long patriotism is related to that, I’m fairly certain that’ll come up as a reason during the announcement on Friday.
This new red option will be added to the existing rotation of jerseys and does not replace anything the team wore last season. The whites are still the home jersey, greys the (official) road, and blue continues to serve as an alternate.
