The Cleveland Cavaliers will continue their 2016-17 Hardwood Classic series tonight as they’ll don orange throwback uniforms for their game against the Detroit Pistons.
Cleveland has worn the orange threads four times so far this season posting a record of 3-1 when doing so, their last game in the oranges was a 107-91 win at home versus the Oklahoma City Thunder on January 29th. Cleveland’s only loss in the oranges this season was to the Chicago Bulls on January 4th.
These uniforms were originally worn from 1983 through 1987, they were replaced by a blue version of the same design for the 1987-88 and 1988-89 seasons. The blue/orange colour scheme was worn until their “what the heck were we thinking?!” period of black and powder blue in the late 1990s/early 2000s.
The Cavs will wear the retro uniforms once more this season on March 31st against the Philadelphia 76ers — but maybe if we’re loud enough they’ll bring ’em back come the NBA Playoffs, I think we all can agree they’d be a welcome sight in the playoffs over those sleeved monstrosities they won the title while wearing in 2016.
