The St Louis Cardinals today announced via their SnapChat account that the team will be wearing throwback uniforms this season.
For their game against the Boston Red Sox at Busch Stadium on May 16th, the Cardinals will wear a uniform design worn originally 50 years prior, during their 1967 World Series victory over those very same Boston Red Sox. We’re unsure if the Red Sox will be participating in their throwback threads but as is custom, the home team would be responsible for the costs of such a move.
St Louis will also wear a special patch noting the 50th anniversary of that championship, the logo is based heavily on the press pin given away to members of the media covering the original event in St Louis.
So next time someone starts ragging on a team for celebrating the anniversary of a championship, i.e. “Why celebrate how many years you’ve been lousy?!”, point them back to the Cardinals celebrating 50 years since 1967, the team has won several titles since. It happens regardless of success since.
