After a slew of minor league baseball teams wearing Star Wars jerseys last week on May the Fourth, it’s kind of refreshing to see a team take on a different science-fiction franchise. This Saturday, May 13, the Indianapolis Indians, Triple-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates, will wear promotional jerseys in the style of Guardians of the Galaxy.
The uniforms are meant to emulate the garb worn by Rocket Raccoon, Star-Lord’s obsessive-compulsive, anthropomorphized sidekick, in the recent reboot of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise.
Indians players unveiled the jerseys while visiting children at Indianapolis’s Community North Hospital earlier today. The jerseys will be auctioned off to benefit the Community Health Foundation, which is raising money to install cameras in hospital rooms so that parents can see their children when they are not at the hospital.
