Los Angeles Rams may delay new uniform unveiling along with new stadium

The Los Angeles Rams delivered some bad news as far as their new stadium is concerned — due to record rainfall in the area where their stadium is being built, construction has been delayed and they won’t be opening their new stadium until 2020. The Rams planned to move into their new digs for the 2019 season, so it’s obviously a bit of a bummer that they’ll be stuck in the LA Memorial Coliseum for another season.

However, this also had an effect on the team’s new uniforms. The Rams made it known that they were planning to unveil new uniforms to coincide with their move to the new stadium, which meant that we were all expecting them to come out with their new look for the 2019 season. However, if there’s no new stadium then they really don’t have an incentive to release their new uniforms as well.

So, what are the Rams going to do? The Los Angeles Times asked Rams COO/VP of Football Operations Kevin Demoff about this, and he didn’t seem to be too committal on either end.

Fourteen months ago, Demoff told The Times, “Our focus has always been on introducing new uniforms the year we open a new stadium. That’s the opportune time to shape your brand.”

Now what?

Demoff said Thursday that the process with the NFL and uniform-maker Nike had begun and that the Rams are eligible to rebrand in 2019.

But it might not happen until 2020.

“That’s a decision we’ll make in the coming months as we look at the uniforms,” Demoff said during a teleconference with a reporters. “But we will have the option of beginning a rebrand in 2019 or with the stadium in 2020.”

So, it appears that the Rams are considering just going ahead with the rebrand ahead of the 2019 season, and they’re also considering waiting until they move into their new stadium in 2020. Again, it’s non-committal on their end.

With that being said, there’s now clearly a chance that we won’t see the Rams reveal their grand rebrand until 2020. What do you all think of this? Are you excited about another season of the Rams doing this weird thing with blue-and-white?
