The Baltimore Orioles took to the field while celebrating their home state last night, making use of the iconic Maryland state flag on several parts of the uniform.
The uniforms were worn as part of “Celebrate Maryland” night at Camden Yards, the Orioles gave replica versions of the jerseys out to fans entering the ballpark and had both of Maryland’s representatives in the U.S. Senate on hand to throw out the first pitch.
Caps made use of the flag pattern on the bill, jerseys had it on the team wordmark across the chest as well as the player number (both on the back and front) — player names were in the usual Orioles style. The pattern was extended to those who wear their socks loud and proud.
A look at some photos from the game last night, which the Orioles won over the Toronto Blue Jays.
Watching on television the uniforms looked fine when the player was shown in a close-up shot — such as in between pitches, any other moment or anything in action made it look like we were watching a Memorial Day game. The flag pattern very much resembling the standard May long weekend camouflage look we’re now accustom to.
Jerseys were auctioned post-game, proceeds to charity.
