The Long Island Ducks will host the Atlantic League All Star Game for the third time in 2018. The Ducks, who hold basically all of the league’s attendance records, including leading the league in attendance in 14 of their 17 seasons, hosted the 2002 and 2010 All Star Games as well.
The logo for the league’s All Star Game, created by Skye Design Studios in New York, features the Ducks’ colors, green and orange, as well as a likeness of the Ducks’ mascot, Quacker Jack, who has been featured on the Ducks’ logo since the team’s inception in 2000. Also featured on the logo is one of Long Island’s signature lighthouses, as well as a baseball riding an Atlantic Ocean wave.
The Ducks’ nickname derives from Long Island’s history of duck farming. According to Modern Farmer, duck farming in the area dates back to the 1870s, peaking in the 1960s with Long Island farms producing 7.5 million ducks. The Ducks’ logo has remained unchanged since the team’s inception in 2000.
The independent Atlantic League, in its 20th season, has seen the likes of Major Leaguers Ruben Sierra, Jose Canseco, and Rich Hill (to pick a few at random) in uniform.
