Denver Nuggets switch to navy with new uniforms

Ever since the 2003-04 season when the team underwent a drastic change in color scheme, the Denver Nuggets have been known for being one of the pioneers of the powder blue movement that swept over the NBA during that time period. Over the span of the decade, the Nuggets made small but gradual changes to their set, but powder blue remained the focal point of their colored uniforms.

Ahead of the 2017-18 season, the Nuggets have decided to use the Nike overhaul to make a major change to their uniform set — their Icon uniform will be navy blue instead of powder blue.

The Nuggets are no stranger to wearing navy uniforms. After all, they had a navy alt not too long ago, and the team wore navy uniforms as their primary road color during the 1990s, so this is a bit of the Nuggets returning back to an old color scheme more than it something entirely brand new.

In fact, you could probably make a decent argument that the Nuggets have decided to go with navy as their new primary color, since the Association uniforms now have mostly navy striping on the sides, instead of the powder blue look that they went with in their most recent set.

Personally, I would’ve preferred to see the team keep their powder blue set. There was a time when it seemed like there were too many teams with a powder blue uniform in their set, but that time has come and gone and the Nuggets were unique. Now, it just feels like they’re blending in with the teams who have a navy blue look in their arsenal. It’s not a bad look by any means, but the Nuggets’ uniforms no longer catch they eye like they once did when they were a powder blue team.

What do you all think, though? Do you support their decision to go to navy blue instead of powder blue?
