Marlins Add Memorial Patch for Felo Ramirez

The Miami Marlins have added a memorial patch to their jersey in memory of Rafael “Felo” Ramirez, their Spanish-language radio announcer who died Monday night in Miami. Ramirez, who was 94, died as a result of striking his head while falling from the Marlins team bus in Philadelphia earlier this season.

Ramirez was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum as a winner of the Ford C. Frick Award in 2001, he had been calling games for the Marlins since their expansion season in 1993 but had been involved in the game as a broadcaster since the 1940s.

The patch shows a microphone with “Felo” in white across it, the entire patch inside a black circle. It will be worn on the sleeve of all of the Marlins jerseys just above the All-Star Game patch throughout the rest of the 2017 season. The Marlins also continue to wear a memorial patch for pitcher Jose Fernandez who died in an accident last September.
