Perhaps for just one night they can be the Kalamazoo Wild Wings?
The Kalamazoo Wings, ECHL affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks, have announced they will be wearing these “Mighty Ducks” (the 90s movie, not the 90s NHL team) inspired jerseys for their game on Friday, December 22nd against the Toledo Walleye.
“Mighty Ducks” night is being held as a celebration of “everyone’s favourite fictional hockey team”, the Disney movie released in 1992 focused on a crummy Minnesota-based kids hockey team who, when paired with a new court-appointed coach went on to win the World Championships I think… there were a few sequels, I know they played Trinidad and Tobago at some point. Anyways, the movie’s popularity led to Disney naming their expansion NHL team after the film in 1993, fortunately a movie studio hasn’t been in a position to name a pro sports team since.
In addition to the jerseys based on those worn in the original film “Mighty Ducks Night” will include an appearance from Matt Doherty, the actor who played Les Averman in the movie. Fans are asked to wear their ugliest holiday sweater for a second intermission contest… not sure if that’s a commentary on the Mighty Ducks uniform or just a holiday season coincidence.
Kalamazoo will also be wearing special themed jerseys for A Christmas Story, The Grateful Dead, Captain America. The uniforms were all provided by Athletic Knit, the same company we used for our SportsLogos.Net Slo-Pitch team jerseys! I most certainly recommend them.
