With over three weeks left in the regular season the Washington Nationals have clinched the National League East Division championship. Suffice to say, there is no “phantom merchandise” coming out of the NL East in 2017.
While all of this merchandise will be red, white, blue, and full of curly “W”s, it is extremely likely that the exact same template will be applied to the other division champions and wild card clubs in both the American and National Leagues this fall. Just change the colours, and logos where necessary and that’s what you’re going to get.
The “reign” theme we saw across the league last season (and into Spring Training again in 2017) does not appear to be carrying over into the Postseason this year, instead we see “TAKE 17” used frequently in its place. At the top of this post you see the locker room t-shirt celebrating the division championship, you’ll notice the inclusion of this “TAKE 17” phrase in there.
“TAKE 17” is front and centre on the official hooded sweatshirts, this is what you’ll be seeing all the players wearing while sitting in the dugout during games in the Wild Card, LDS, and LCS rounds of this Postseason.
The “locker room” celebration cap makes no mention of the division championship, just a generic “POSTSEASON” design:
On the field for the Postseason, caps will have a rather large, circular patch on the right side featuring the 2017 MLB Postseason logo along with the flags from the World Series trophy and two crossed bats:
Meanwhile jerseys will be using a much smaller version just focusing on the actual wordmark:
