New England Patriots will wear all-white for Color Rush game vs. Tampa Bay

The New England Patriots will have a new look when they take the field this Thursday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. For the first time since 2009 (and we’re not counting the times when they wore throwbacks), the New England Patriots will be wearing white pants with their white jerseys. The team announced the uniform combination on Twitter today by laying out the uniform elements in a quick video.

The Patriots also announced that they’ll be wearing their actual Color Rush uniforms for their Week 7 Super Bowl rematch at home against the Atlanta Falcons.

The Patriots actually have one of the better Color Rush uniforms in the NFL, so I don’t think that people will mind seeing those uniforms return. However, the all-white look is easily the most interesting news to come from all of this. Again, the Patriots have not worn all-white as a non-throwback since the 1989 season, which is when the Pats took a break from wearing red pants to go with white.

Once the Patriots switched to the “Flying Elvis” logo for the 1993 season, they started wearing silver pants and that’s been part of their normal rotation ever since. So this is definitely a very interesting change of pace for the Patriots and I’m sure that there will be a sense of intrigue to see how this looks on the field.
