Juventus FC set to wear special kit commemorating 120th anniversary

Although sports fans in North America are used to seeing teams in the NFL, NHL, NBA and MLB wear throwback uniforms from time to time, it’s a rarity in the world of soccer. It’s due to the fact that soccer teams have taken to switching kits from year-to-year, so it’s not like you’ll see teams wear throwbacks — especially throwbacks from the time before teams had sponsors on their jerseys.

However, once in a blue moon you’ll see a soccer team adopt a design from the past, but it’s still extremely rare to see soccer teams go back to the past with their design. With that being said, Juventus FC have shockingly decided to go the throwback route with a special kit that they’ll be wearing soon.

Italy’s most successful soccer club will don a throwback look that is apparently a call back to what the club wore back in 1897 in order to celebrate the club’s 120th anniversary.

It’s an extremely simple shirt and the thick collar and sleeve cuffs definitely complete the throwback feel of this shirt. Additionally, they also made the smart decision of completely minimizing any presence of sponsorship or advertising on the shirt. The three stripes that we normally see on Adidas shirts are nowhere to be found, and the Adidas logo is printed in black on the black stripe, and the team’s primary shirt sponsor also has their name printed in black on a black stripe.

The team will still wear their normal shorts and socks, but it’s not a huge detriment to the shirt, which is clearly the focal point. Simply put, if you’re going to do a throwback look in soccer then this is how it should be done.

What do you make of the throwback shirt, though? Is this a great look for Juventus?
