The Rockford IceHogs, AHL affiliate of the Chicago Blackhawks, will pay homage to their city’s famous sporting past during their annual Pink in the Rink game this season. January 26, the IceHogs will wear jerseys that emulate the Rockford Peaches, the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League team from Rockford, Illinois, that was popularized in the 1992 movie A League of their Own.
This year marks the 75th anniversary of the AAGPBL, which was founded toward the end of World War II in 1943 and lasted until 1954. The Peaches won four of the league’s championships, including three in a row from 1948 to 1950.
The jerseys will be auctioned off throughout the game to benefit breast cancer research, and the team will donate $5 of each ticket sold to the International Women’s Baseball Center.
