Charleston RiverDogs to celebrate Jamaican Bobsled Night

The Charleston RiverDogs, who are playing their 25th season this year, will commemorate the 25th anniversary of the movie Cool Runnings with Jamaican Bobsled Night May 3. The RiverDogs, Class-A affiliate of the New York Yankees, will wear uniforms derived from those worn by the 1988 Jamaican Olympic team, including the country’s first-ever bobsled team to qualify for the Olympics, immortalized in the 1993 movie.

The evening will feature an appearance by Doug E. Doug, who played Sanka Coffie in the movie.

“I can’t believe we get to do a night about Cool Runnings,” RiverDogs Director of Promotions Nate Kurant told MiLB.com. “I’m looking forward to meeting Doug and breaking down the film line-for-line; the fans might even have a few minutes to meet with him, too.”

According to the team, “The evening’s festivities will feature a bobsled photo opportunity and meet and greet with Doug, along with push cart races, Olympic trivia, and medals awarded to the top competitors of the night.”

The jerseys will be auctioned off during the game.
