Residents of the state of Connecticut have the chance to pay homage to their departed, still-beloved hockey team with specialty license plates. The plates feature the logo of the Hartford Whalers, who left the state to become the Carolina Hurricanes in 1997.
The original version of the classic logo (on the left above) is noted for the counterform H for Hartford created by the interaction of the W for Whalers and the tale of a whale. It was created by designer Peter Good in 1979. The version of the logo featured on the new license plate, unfortunately, is the less good version with outlines and pointy parts unveiled in 1992.
Cue the #BrassBonanza!#HartfordWhalers license plates are now available to #CT drivers. Proceeds from the sale benefit the future @CTChildrens Infusion and Dialysis Center. Celebrate the Whale while helping kids access lifesaving care. 🐋🏒

The specialty plates will cost Connecticut drivers $60, with $45 of that fee benefitting the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center and the other $15 going to the state.
