During the past offseason, Dell Diamond, home of the Double-A Round Rock Express, served as a set for the TV show Fear the Walking Dead. The Express will carry the partnership with AMC into the new baseball season, when for one game May 5, they take on the identity of the fictional Round Rock Armadillos featured in the show.
The one-game brand was created by Brandiose. Per the team, “the Express recreated the identity of the Armadillos using inspiration from the original logo concept seen on Fear the Walking Dead. The armadillo, the State of Texas’ unofficial mascot, is featured on the cap and the jersey sleeve mimicking characteristics of the show’s popular ‘walkers’ and wielding a razor wire bat, a subtle nod to Fear the Walking Dead‘s predecessor, The Walking Dead.”
There was plenty of speculation during the offseason about the goings-on inside the stadium, with entertainment reporters and photographers trying to get a glimpse. AMC replaced most of the signage in the stadium, along with all of the grass in the playing field and berm in time for the Express’ season, which begins April 5 (just 10 days before Fear the Walking Dead’s fourth season debut on April 15).

Walking Dead fans! Round Rock Express will become the zombified "Round Rock Armadillos" to celebrate the filming of Fear the Walking Dead at their park this year. The ballpark was recently transformed to a post-apocalyptic setting, and the transformation photos are incredible! pic.twitter.com/oQX5GjMfhg

According to the team, the jerseys will be auctioned off during the game, with proceeds benefitting “Round Rock Serving Center, a nonprofit organization that carries out a community-wide mission of meeting human needs in Round Rock and beyond.”
