The Kentucky Wildcats have been wearing a checkerboard pattern on their uniforms for a decade now; it was originally introduced in 2008 as a subtle addition to the basketball uniforms in tribute to Kentucky Derby and Triple Crown legend Secretariat.
Since then that subtle pattern has increased in size and visibility, with a full checkerboard pattern running down each side of the Wildcats most recent basketball uniforms.
This week the Lexington Herald-Leader put a poll up on their site asking what Kentucky fans thought about the checkerboard look.
They, uh, they didn’t like it. Take a look:
Just over 69% wanted absolutely nothing to do with them, while approx. 27% ranged from loving them to merely tolerating them. There are 3.75% of poll respondents who are not welcome on this website.
It’s not only the basketball team that wears the checkerboard…

Personally, I don’t mind the checkerboard but if the fans don’t like it perhaps it’s time to move on. Share your thoughts in the comments.
