The Carolina Hurricanes became the third NHL team to announce an alternate uniform for the 2018-19 season when they revealed they would unveil their new third jersey at the team’s draft party to be held on Friday, June 22nd.
The new look will be unveiled before the 2018 NHL Draft begins which is at 7pm ET, the Hurricanes draft party gets underway at 6pm ET so we can expect to see it sometime during that hour.
Following the league-wide switch to Adidas prior to the 2017-18 season the league took a year off from sporting regular alternate uniforms; although a handful of teams still wore one-off specialty uniforms for outdoor games and throwback events.
Earlier this year the Philadelphia Flyers mentioned they’d be bringing back a black third jersey for the new season, and late last month the Arizona Coyotes – like the Hurricanes – said they’d show off their new alternate jersey during their NHL Draft Party (that should be a busy night for us…)
Carolina previously sported a black alternate uniform from 2008/09 through 2016/17 – they were the first team to unveil a third jersey after the league-wide switch to Reebok and if they time it right they could do the same for Adidas.
I’m feeling it’s a safe bet that their new third jersey will also be black but no clue on the design; the fact they call it a “new third jersey” more than once on their Draft Party page suggests it will *not* be the same design we saw during those nine seasons. Unless… Nah, couldn’t be!
