ECHL Maine Mariners Unveil Inaugural Uniforms

The Maine Mariners, one of two new teams to join the “Double A” ECHL hockey league this year, unveiled their inaugural season uniforms at the crack of dawn this morning.

The dark jersey is navy blue with green at the end of each sleeve, green and white stripes at the waist, and white piping down each sleeve. The white jersey goes with green down each sleeve with blue piping, sleeves are white at the cuff with a single, thin blue stripe. At the waist are green and blue stripes with a white line separating the two.

Each jersey features the team’s primary logo on the chest – a silver and white “M” next to a horizontal blue and green trident to form an “E”, together they spell out “ME” the state abbreviation for Maine. There are several hidden elements in this logo paying tribute to the State of Maine including a lighthouse in the shading of the “M”, a pine tree on the center spear of the trident, and the Dirigo Star (seen on the state seal among other local uses) at the base. This star appears again on the collar of each jersey.

A different logo appears on each shoulder, the right brings back the logo of the original Maine Mariners recoloured in the modern Mariners green and blue – the original Mariners teams played in the American Hockey League as two separate franchises from 1977-1992. The left shoulder is the state map of Maine with the wheel from the original Mariners logo centred on it.

An advertisement patch will be present for the on-ice version of this uniform, the logo of Mariners Premier Partner Spectrum Healthcare Partners will appear on the upper right corner of the chest.

The ECHL does a jersey switcheroo mid-season each year, the Mariners will wear their white jerseys at home until the All-Star Break before switching to navy at home the rest of the way.

Maine joins the expansion Newfoundland Growlers as new ECHL teams this season — the Mariners, who are the relocated Alaska Aces franchise, will be affiliated with the New York Rangers at the NHL level and the Hartford Wolf Pack in the AHL. The team marks the return of professional hockey to the state following the relocation of the AHL’s Portland Pirates to Springfield following the 2015-16 season.

The Mariners inaugural season in Maine gets underway on October 13th when the Mariners host the Adirondack Thunder at the Cross Insurance Arena in Portland.
