Happy Canada Day!
Today the Toronto Blue Jays, the lone Canadian team in Major League Baseball will do their patriotic duty and represent the holiday for an entire nation this afternoon… as is tradition.
The Jays will wear their red alternate jersey today for the first time during the 2018 season, the team had planned on wearing the jersey every Sunday home game but they quickly considered them unlucky and scrapped just a few months into that plan.
With the red jersey will be Major League Baseball’s “Stars and Stripes” cap, a red lid with golden maple leaf on the front. The logo for the American League on the right side of the cap, a Blue Jays logo on the back above the MLB logo.
Toronto first began wearing red for Canada Day in 1996, well before Major League Baseball ran the idea across the league for the Fourth of July holiday in the United States.
