The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, Double-A affiliate of the Miami Marlins, will wear Scrabble-themed uniforms on a day when they try to set a world record this weekend. The Jumbo Shrimp put out a call for 30 participants to play the board game against North American Scrabble champion Will Anderson, who is attempting to set the record for most simultaneous games played.
For the uninitiated, Scrabble is an analog version of the smartphone game Words With Friends, but without the Google-aided cheating. This year marks the 70th anniversary of the game’s release.
The Jumbo Shrimp will commemorate their world-record attempt with Scrabble-inspired uniforms during a game Sunday, July 15, against the Biloxi Shuckers. The jerseys will be auctioned off after the game.
