Johnny Cash famously shot a man in Reno, just to watch him die—or so the song Folsom Prison Blues would have you believe. Reno’s Triple-A minor league baseball team, the Aces, will pay tribute to their city’s most famous would-be murder with specialty uniforms this weekend.
For one game against the Salt Lake Bees Saturday, August 18, the Aces will commemorate the country music singer (not to mention author, actor, and ordained minister) with Tribute to Johnny Cash Night. Their specialty jerseys will be black, reflecting the signature look of Cash himself. The jerseys feature a guitar (for obvious reasons) and on the back, a train—the sort that one might hear a comin’ as it’s rollin’ ’round the bend.
Cash does not have extensive connections to Nevada—he was born in Arkansas and died at the age of 71 in Nashville, Tennessee, in 2003—but he did spend a night in jail in Carson City, Nevada, just half an hour south of Reno.
The uniforms will be auctioned off after the game.
