Lehigh Valley IronPigs honor NFL champs with special uniforms

The Triple-A Lehigh Valley IronPigs play less than an hour away from their parent club, the Philadelphia Phillies. As such, the IronPigs hold a Salute to Philadelphia promotional night each season. This year’s tribute to the City of Brotherly Love is a little special, paying homage to the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles.

The IronPigs will wear promotional uniforms that highlight an iconic moment from Super Bowl LII, a fourth-down trick play called the “Philly Special,” in which backup quarterback Nick Foles caught a pass from tight end Trey Burton, giving the Eagles a 22-12 lead going into halftime. The Eagles-green jerseys feature the IronPigs alternate Liberty Bell logo on one sleeve, and a diagram of the instant classic play on the other sleeve.

The team’s caps will also feature the diagram, not once but twice—under the brim and on the back. In case that diagram isn’t clear, here’s the video (which, as a Philadelphia sports fan myself, I have watched roughly 1,000 times):

Lehigh Valley’s Salute to Philadelphia game takes place August 25 against the Scranton Wilkes-Barre RailRiders. Game-worn jerseys will be auctioned off after the game.
