The Daytona Tortugas have known since June that they would be playing in the playoffs, so they’ve had some time to make plans. As first-half champions of the Florida State League’s North Division, the Tortugas, High-A affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds, have claimed the title of “Kings of the North,” and will wear Game of Thrones–themed jerseys throughout their postseason run.
Daytona’s uniforms will adopt an aesthetic familiar to those who follow the popular TV show, evoking the clothes worn in the independent territory of the North. (Don’t @ me, Targaryens.) The jersey features a wordmark and etched-metal version of the Tortugas’ logo derived from the show.
The Tortugas are hoping their tenure as Kings of the North has more of a Jon Snow arc than that of Robb Stark, but Daytona has played sub-.500 ball in the second half of the season, and their likely playoff opponent, the soon-to-be-crowned second-half champion Clearwater Threshers, are 20 games over .500 and are probably envisioning more of a Red Wedding scenario.
We’ll see the Kings of the North take the field for the playoffs for game 1 in Clearwater, likely September 3 or 4.
