MLB: Gold Ribbons & Wristbands Worn Across Baseball Sept. 1st

All Major League Baseball players and umpires will be wearing gold/yellow ribbons and wristbands across the league for games played on Saturday, September 1, 2018.

The special ribbons and gold wristbands are being worn in support of the fight against childhood cancer, it is the third consecutive season the league has chosen to promote this cause via players wearing ribbons. Players will also wear special batting practice shirts before the game.

While it isn’t mentioned in MLB’s release, these special game-used items are typically auctioned off following the game with the proceeds going to charity.

Of course, a ribbon and a wristband aren’t the only things league is doing to help with this – there are pregame ceremonies, first pitches, hospital visits, teams are making donations of tickets, suites, and funds to Stand Up to Cancer and/or additional local organizations. Each team will donate 200 high-quality gowns to local hospitals for children undergoing treatment, the league itself is donating an additional 3000 gowns.

Over the years Major League Baseball has raised more than $40 million for Stand Up To Cancer. For more details on what some individual teams are doing as part of this event, you can read the press release at MLB.com
