If you’re going to have a baseball team in Milwaukee, you’d better name it for people responsible for providing beverages. The Big League Milwaukee Brewers have company in a city famous for its Harley-Davidson headquarters, its bronze statue of Arthur Fonzarelli, and its preponderance of beer and dairy products.
The newest team on Laverne and Shirley’s block is the Milwaukee Milkmen, a member of the independent American Association, home to such classics as the Saint Paul Saints, the Wichita Wingnuts, and the newly crowned champion Kansas City T-Bones.

The Milkmen announced their presence with authority today, unveiling their name and identity with a video. The nickname, of course, derives from the region’s close association with the dairy industry—Wisconsin is America’s Dairyland, after all.
The Milkmen will take the field for the first time next May, when the 2019 American Association season gets underway.
