Like the ’90s? How ’bout the ’80s? Both? And are you a hockey fan? If you answered ‘yes’ to any of those questions then your eyes are in for a visual delight tonight.
The Arizona Coyotes, Calgary Flames, and St Louis Blues will all be débuting their brand new Adidas throwback uniforms in their respective home openers tonight.
Arizona will wear the “Kachina” uniform originally worn by the club during their first seven seasons following their relocation from Winnipeg in 1996. The jersey is black with green shoulders, a sand stripe across the waist, and the classic standing Coyote logo on the chest in brown, green, purple, and sand.
The shoulder brings back the crescent moon logo, sadly the “Goals For Kids” patch the club wore during their first season did not make the cut.
The Coyotes opponent tonight is the Anaheim Ducks who will be wearing their usual road white uniform. Remember, it’s not a special “turn back the clock” game, this is now the Coyotes usual alternate uniform.

Meanwhile, the Calgary Flames are also bringing back their original uniform following a relocation, the design they wore in their first fifteen seasons after the club moved up to Alberta from Atlanta in 1980. The Flames’ red and yellow beauties have the white flaming-C logo on the chest and gold/white stripes across the waist and on each sleeve.
The Flames wore the uniforms for two trips to the Stanley Cup Finals including their only championship in 1989.
Calgary is rockin’ the retro reds tonight at home against the Vancouver Canucks, also in their usual road whites as, like the Coyotes, these are the Flames standard alternate uniforms now.

St Louis has brought back a slightly “fauxbacky” version of their inaugural 1967-68 season uniforms, main differences include the shade of blue is much lighter in this version and they certainly didn’t use “heritage white” in place of white in 1967.
The Blues later brought this uniform back for the Winter Classic game they hosted against the Chicago Blackhawks in 2017.
Speaking of the Blackhawks, they’re the Blues opponents tonight… coincidence!
