The Main Event: Grizzlies Unveil Wrestling-Inspired Uniforms

Memphis has been associated with many kings over the years, Elvis, B.B., Martin Luther King, Jr., but there’s another “King” of Memphis out there that can sometimes get overlooked when paired with that epic trio… and professional wrestling’s Jerry “The King” Lawler.

Wrestling has a long history with the City of Memphis, as the Grizzlies themselves explain:

From the hallowed halls of the Ellis Auditorium and the Mid-South Coliseum to Saturday mornings on WMC TV to the bright lights of FedExForum, Memphis has hosted our fair share of athletes as entertainers and entertainers as athletes.

For their “City Edition” uniforms this season the Grizzlies have decided to honour Memphis’s role as a wrestling hub for generations.

A steel grey base for steel chairs and cages.

A panel with gold accents featuring a “GNG” (for “Grit & Grind”) and a Grizzlies logo to mimic the look of a championship belt.

Three “Beale Street Blue” ropes (one on the collar and two on the waist) for those that form a barrier around the squared circle that is the professional wrestling ring. A “MEM” design on the center of the waistband of the shorts designed to resemble a turn/belt buckle.
