The Washington Nationals this morning unveiled their new Spring Training cap and jersey for their 2019 Grapefruit League (pre) season.
Starting with the jersey, it’s white (so is there a road version still to come?) and has the “Nationals” scripted wordmark across the chest in blue and red, the player number to the bottom left of the team name in red with blue trim. This feels like it should be the Nationals usual home uniform rather than just a Spring design… not to take anything away from their current design.
A departure from past Nats Spring looks, the cap doesn’t feature the curly “W” as it has in the Spring for the last decade, instead we get a throwback to Washington’s original Major League team (also called the Nats but usually referred to as the Senators). The logo, which I had considered “unofficial” shows a “W” with a silhouette of the U.S. Capitol Dome behind and a star on either side, this logo originally appeared on Topps baseball cards in the 1950s and quickly became associated with the club.
Washington will begin selling the new spring cap and jersey at their annual Winterfest fan event at the Nationals team store.
