2019 NBA All-Star Game Uniforms Officially Unveiled

Following a leak earlier this month, Nike has now officially unveiled the uniforms for the upcoming 2019 NBA All-Star Game in Charlotte, N.C.

The uniforms match what we saw earlier, black versus white, collar and arms in red/white/blue trim, three stars up each side of the jersey – red on the black, white on the blue, and each player’s team logo on the front in black and white.

What we didn’t know at the time of that leak is that this design was meant to be a throwback to the 1991 NBA All-Star Game uniforms, the only other NBA All-Star game to be played in Charlotte.

“With the game being in Charlotte, we were presented with a great opportunity to look at the rich history of the city and its many connections to our brand. You see this come together with the 1991 inspiration combined with the clean black and white design language,” Jordan Brand Vice President of Design David Creech said in the press release.

See it? It’s right there in the neck area.

Alright, to be fair, there are other callbacks to the ’91 Game such as a couple of logos from the game added to the shorts at the waistband and on the side. It’s just that Nike didn’t provide any photos of these additional elements in their release, so… we’ll have to use our imagination. I bet it looks great. (UPDATE: we added photos of the shorts to the end of this post)

Down each side of the jersey we see stars which incorporate a honeycomb pattern, a nod to the host Hornets, there are also crowns for Charlotte’s nickname of The Queen City on the vents of the shorts (again, imagination).

Player names and numbers use a military-inspired stencil font in recognition of North Carolina’s history of flight, just as the Wright Brothers intended.

It’s the second NBA All-Star Game in a row that we’ve seen the black-and-white style uniforms with large team logos on the front, at least this year we got a little splash of colour in the trim and on the stars. A far cry from All-Star uniforms of years gone by.

Again sticking with the Team Captains format, the 2019 NBA All-Star Game will be played between Team LeBron (James) and Team Giannis (Antetokounmpo) at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte, North Carolina on February 17, 2019.

UPDATE (Jan 25/19 1:50 pm ET):

Thanks to Conrad Burry, who spotted the shorts up for sale on Nike’s online shop, we were able to find the 2019 NBA All-Star Game shorts and see those additional references to the 1991 NBA All-Star Game logo and uniforms…

The logo on the side of the shorts is a very modernized version of the ’91 logo, here’s a close up of that design:

On the waistband, we see the crown logo originally featured both in the ’91 logo and on the ’91 jerseys as several patches above the logo near the front collar, another closer look:
