The Omaha Storm Chasers, Triple-A affiliate of the Kansas City Royals, play in the first place you think of at the mention of steak. Not only does Nebraska have more cattle than any other state besides Texas, but the mail-order meat distributor Omaha Steaks International, which was founded as a butcher shop more than 100 years ago, is a staple of pop culture, having been referenced in such TV shows from The Simpsons to Hell’s Kitchen to The West Wing (and most of the others in between).

So when the Storm Chasers set out to create a temporary food-based brand, as has been all the rage in minor league baseball in recent years, they were reminded, you don’t sell the steak, you sell the sizzle.
The team announced today that they’ll play five games in 2019 as the Omaha Sizzle. They’ll wear black uniforms emblazoned with the world Sizzle designed to look as though it’s fresh off the grill. Cap logos feature a rare steak in the shape of the state of Nebraska, with the Storm Chasers’ “Bolt O” logo nestled into the grill marks.
The promotion will take place on select “Thirsty Thursday” home games, but specific dates have not been announced yet.
