Leafs Announce Return of St Pats Uniform for Two in March

Leafs go Brách!

The Toronto Maple Leafs this morning confirmed the club would be bringing back their 1922-25 style Toronto St. Pats throwback uniforms this season, wearing them for two games during the week of St. Patrick’s Day – a home game against the Philadelphia Flyers on March 15th and then a road trip to Ottawa (who’d better be wearing their throwback-inspired alternates!) on March 16th.

Things look pretty similar to the uniform worn by the team for one game in 2017, just carried over to the Adidas Adizero cut from the old Reebok Edge style discontinued by the league following that season, this includes the same unique numbering style on the back of the jerseys which saw the numbers placed on large blocks to fight against visibility issues with the horizontal stripe.

And here’s the 2016-17 version in action, as you can see it’s the same design:

The Toronto Maple Leafs played as the Toronto St. Patricks from the start of the 1919-20 season until mid-February 1927, the team was named St Patricks (commonly abbreviated St Pats) in hopes to appeal to Toronto’s large Irish population; the club was purchased by a group led by Conn Smythe who renamed the team Maple Leafs with just two months remaining in the 1926-27 season.
