Oregon State Set to Unveil New Football Uniforms

Oregon State season-ticket holders will get the first look at the Beavers’ new football uniforms during the program’s annual Spring Game at Reser Stadium on April 20.

This will mark the first significant uniform change for Oregon State since the university introduced a new athletic logo in 2013 as part of a department-wide rebrand that included a custom font/numeral set and the addition of metallic bronze to its orange and black color scheme. That season, the Beavers became one of the first programs to wear multi-colored face masks — which seemingly mimicked their buck-toothed mascot — but they eventually scrapped that in favor of a solid paint job.

Oregon State also originally planned to wear monochromatic uniforms for every game, but the look lacked cohesion once the program started mixing and matching the helmets, jerseys and pants. Nike also made the Beavers’ uniform design available through its catalog, which led to other teams adopting and recoloring their look. That combined with the team’s use of Nike’s eight-year old Speed Machine template signified it was time for a change.

Recent trends and the largely positive reception for last year’s throwback uniforms received from fans would suggest Oregon State will simplify its overall look as the football team moves to the cleaner Vapor Untouchable template. And while it appears the font will remain, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Beavers drop metallic bronze from their color scheme.

Even with the uncertainty surrounding Oregon State’s uniform reveal, it’s safe to say new uniforms are long overdue and will be a welcomed sight in Corvallis.
