Penn State announced during its Spring Game on Saturday the return of its “Generations of Greatness” throwback uniform for the Oct. 5 Homecoming matchup with Purdue.
The uniforms — which were first worn during a 45-14 win over Indiana in September 2017 — do not honor a specific Nittany Lions season or team, but rather combines different elements of past Penn State looks.
It’s not all that different from the Nittany Lions’ current uniform, but notably features a gray face mask and helmet numbers worn from the 1950 sto the 80s; block numbers worn during the 1950s and 1960s; the Nittany Lion Shrine logo at the base of the collar as opposed to the team’s primary mark; a blue stripe on the pants (1950-60s); and white cleats from the 1979 Sugar Bowl team.
No word yet as to whether or not Penn State will bring back the classic diamond end zone design used by the program during the 1960s, ‘70s and ‘80s, but we can certainly hope.
