Rochester College Changes Name To Rochester University, Unveils New Athletic Logos

Late last year, Rochester College — a four-year Christian school located in Rochester Hills, Michigan — announced plans to change its name to Rochester University and rebrand its athletic department. And though the transformation won’t be complete until August 2020, the Warriors unveiled their new athletic logos on Monday afternoon.

An excerpt from the forthcoming style guide says “the Winged Warrior serves as the visual identity for all Rochester University competitive sports and teams, representing spirit, strength, boldness and achievement. The Warriors’ open wings symbolize the university and its students ascending to attain their goals and opening up to the world. The Warriors’ strong, confident stance embodies the determined spirit of the university.”

It appears the university will use a lighter shade of crimson moving forward and introduce gray as a secondary or tertiary color, but we’ll have to wait until the style guide is released to confirm those changes.

Rochester University is a member of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. The Warriors — who formerly competed in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association and the National Small College Athletic Association — have won a combined 11 national championships in men’s basketball, men’s golf, men’s soccer and women’s softball.
