Graphic: Stanley Cup Championship Uniforms 1918-2019

Stanley-Cup-Champs-Graphic

Five years ago we created a graphic which received a fair amount of attention depicting the uniform worn for each Stanley Cup-clinching victory since the dawn of the NHL era (1918). In that post, we compiled a whole host of (what I consider to be) interesting and very uniform-nerdy stats involving what colours were worn. If you want to see those stats (and you probably do if you’re a visitor of this site) then you can see that post here, the post you’re reading now is just my annual update to the graphic, no fancy stats.

The St. Louis Blues won the 2019 Stanley Cup tonight, their first in franchise history, congrats to the Blues! The Toronto Maple Leafs now stands alone with the league’s longest Cup-less drought, before tonight they had been tied with the Blues (51 seasons)

The Blues won the title on the road in Boston while wearing their road white uniforms, the fourth consecutive team to clinch the Stanley Cup while wearing a white uniform — if they had won at home in Game 6 they’d have been the first in blue since the Edmonton Oilers 29(!) years ago. They’re the first predominantly overall blue team to win since the 1994 New York Rangers. Incredible considering the number of teams that wear blue.
