Cougars convert to Atomic Pork Chops

If the Albuquerque Isotopes and Lehigh Valley IronPigs got together and had a baby, the offspring very well might be the new alternate identity for the Kane County Cougars. The Kane County Atomic Pork Chops will take the field for at least three games this season.

After fans requested that the team adopt an alternate identity, the team’s front office put its collective heads together and came up with the name, which, per the team, is “a combination of the Cougars close proximity to the world-renowned Fermilab, which specializes in exploring high-energy physics, along with a desire to pay homage to the Cougars signature pork chop sandwich.”

“We wanted to make sure whatever we came up with was a representation of our community, and Fermilab is a very important part of that with not only the work they’re doing but the number of educational and family events they offer,” said Cougars Vice President and General Manager Curtis Haug, quoted on MiLB.com. “We believe this combination of a local landmark as well as a signature Cougars item is an alternate identity that people can really have some fun with.”

The Atomic Pork Chops play July 19 and 28 and August 8.
