The Houston Astros and Seattle Mariners threw it back to the early 1990s (or late 1980s) last night at the Astrodome Minute Maid Park in Houston.
Houston wore their front-button home whites, worn originally from 1989-1993 with the rainbow racing stripes down each sleeve and straight “ASTROS” wordmark with a single star across the chest.
Seattle countered with their road greys from 1987-1992, “MARINERS” arched across the chest in blue and yellow and single-colour numbers on the front and back.
Both clubs wore era-accurate helmets, which is always an appreciated addition:
Neither club had the MLB logo on the back of the jersey, which wasn’t added to the league until 2000:
But they couldn’t quite get away from the league’s deals with New Era and Majestic to remove those company logos from the sleeve and side of the caps.
Some players took it that extra step by wearing good old-fashioned stirrups:
The presentation of the game had some retro help too via the scoreboard at the ballpark:
And with some (but not all) of the on-screen graphics showing the proper team logos of the time on AT&T SportsNet Houston:
