Seattle XFL Trademarks Five Potential Team Names

Five Seattle-based XFL team names were filed for trademark with the United States Patent and Trademark Office earlier this month by Alpha Entertainment LLC, a company owned by XFL chairman Vince McMahon. These same five names were then later also registered as website domains.

The five names trademarked and registered were Seattle Dragons, Seattle Force, Seattle Fury, Seattle Surge, and Seattle Wild which just shows that no matter how hard we try, we just can’t quite free ourselves from the grasp of the “eXtreme!” naming styles of the late 1990s.

Of those five, I guess I gotta pick the Dragons? But really only by de-fault (the two sweetest words in the English language)… the other names are just a little too self-parodying for me. I mean, the Dragons name isn’t even that great, nor does it really have anything to do with Seattle. The best of a terrible bunch.

At the moment these five are the only team-related trademarks to have been filed associated with the new football league, slated to start in the Spring of 2020. In the last two years, this same company had also trademarked “XFL”, “UrFL” (which is now expired), and “HE HATE ME”.

The XFL’s inaugural season will feature eight teams playing out of Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, Seattle, St. Louis, Tampa Bay, and Washington. It’s the league’s second kick at the can, having previously tried to start up a league nearly twenty years ago in 2001 lasting just one season before folding.
