The Los Angeles Angels took to the field this evening against the Texas Rangers in Arlington one day after the death of starting pitcher Tyler Skaggs.
On their jerseys tonight was a memorial patch, Skaggs’ number 45 in white on a black circle. The patch was added to the front of the jersey on the left side, worn over each player’s heart.
The Rangers also added the number 45 to the back of the pitcher’s mound at Globe Life Park.
At only 27 years of age, Skaggs was found unresponsive in his hotel room prior to the eventually postponed game yesterday. No cause of death was released. Skaggs had pitched seven seasons in Major League Baseball, five with the Angels and two with the Arizona Diamondbacks; he made his last appearance just two days prior to his death, a 4-0 loss at home to the Oakland Athletics.
