Since 1984, the nation has gathered as one on July 23 to celebrate the nation’s grandmothers—or at least the attractive ones, anyway. National Gorgeous Grandmother Day was introduced by radio host and author of the book “Find the Love of Your Life After 50!” Alice Solomon, whose goal was to celebrate the oft-underappreciated aging segment of society.
The Wisconsin Rapids Rafters of the collegiate summer Northwoods League will pay homage to the nation’s elderly hotties by playing a game as the Wisconsin Rapids Gorgeous Grandmas July 23. The town of Wisconsin Rapids is something of an epicenter for the older, good-looking crowd, with roughly a third of the town’s population 55 or over.
The specialized jersey the team will wear features lace trim and a pearl necklace, just like Grandma wore. The jerseys will be auctioned off after the game.
