Northwestern Wildcats, Wisconsin Badgers Reveal Fauxback Football Uniforms

As part of Under Armour’s “School Heritage” line, Northwestern and Wisconsin on Tuesday afternoon unveiled fauxback uniforms for their matchup in Madison on Sept. 28.

Both teams will be outfitted in brand new designs that are meant to mimic the look of uniforms in the early days of football, but adjusted accordingly for today’s equipment — after all, today’s players aren’t outfitted in leather helmets.

As the home team, Wisconsin will wear a plain cardinal uniforms with “UW” on the chest and a rounded number font. That mark is carried over to the white helmet, which also features a thin cardinal stripe and gray facemark.

The Badgers’ uniforms are complete with khaki pants that feature a “W” encompassed within a circle. That logo can also be seen on the palm of their new gloves.

Northwestern’s white fauxback uniforms follow that general design template, with a purple “NU” on the chest and white “NU” on a purple helmet. The biggest difference is that the Wildcats opted for purple pants rather than khaki pants of their own.

That said, the best part of the entire uniform reveal might be Northwestern’s gloves. The Wildcat wearing a leather helmet was the program’s primary logo from 1959-67.
