Under Armour Unveils School Heritage Uniforms For 150th Anniversary Of College Football

Several Under Armour schools took to Twitter earlier this week to unveil throwback uniforms as part of the apparel company’s “School Heritage” line, which commemorates the 150th anniversary of college football’s first game.

From Under Armour’s press release:

Fans storming the field after the biggest upset win in school history. Heartbreaking losses that ended undefeated national championship campaigns. Heisman Trophy winners forever immortalized. The introduction of a four-team playoff.

The last 150 years of college football have transcended sport, becoming a cultural phenomenon that is unmatched in passion – making every Saturday in the fall an unofficial holiday for fans across the United States.

While tailgates and student sections are more recent revelations, the sense of pride and tradition around football programs at schools across the country have united communities for generations.

Participating schools include Boston College, Cal, Cincinnati, Colorado State, Maryland, Northwestern, Navy, Notre Dame, South Carolina, Temple, Texas Tech, Utah and Wisconsin, though only half the group actually participated what was supposed to be a full rollout on Tuesday afternoon.

Temple was notably late to the party, but has since announced it’ll will wear a fauxback uniform to commemorates the program’s appearance in the 1935 Sugar Bowl. Given that game was against Tulane, it’s probably safe to assume the Owls will wear these uniforms when the Green Wave come to town on Nov. 16.

Cal, Colorado State and Texas Tech, meanwhile, did not officially announce their inclusion in the program. But — as you can see in the header photo above — the Golden Bears will simply repurpose their Joe Roth throwback jersey for the “School Heritage” line, while the Rams and Red Raiders will do the same with their Ag Day and 1970s throwbacks, respectively.

The Midshipmen will announce their throwback uniform at a later date, presumably leading up to the 120th Army-Navy Game on Dec. 14, while additional details behind the inspiration of each of the 13 uniforms listed above will be revealed throughout the season.
