When the original Australian Baseball League debuted in 1989, one of the founding teams was the Adelaide Giants. The Giants played 10 seasons and folded when that first ABL folded in 1999. When the ABL was resurrected in 2010, Adelaide, the capital of South Australia and the fifth largest city in Australia, fielded a new team called the Bite.
With the 10th season of the new Australian Baseball League just around the corner, Adelaide’s Bite announced that they will rebrand with a familiar moniker. The team will throw back to the Giants nickname, not just for one or two turn-back-the-clock nights, but for the foreseeable future.
The new Giants brand, which continues the tradition of featuring South Australia’s red, gold, and blue, is considerably more contemporary than its 1990s predecessor (pictured above).
While most of North America languishes in the baseball void of late fall, the ABL’s 2019-20 season will get underway November 21.
