The AHL’s Milwaukee Admirals will commemorate the Day of the Dead with jerseys that feature the iconic sugar skulls associated with the Mexican holiday. The striped pattern on the jersey evokes traditional Zapotec Mexican rug designs.
Sugar skulls, or calaveras, are decorated by families and loved ones as part of offerings to the souls of the departed. They are often, but not always, made of sugar, and edible.
The Admirals, an affiliate of the Nashville Predators, will wear the jerseys for their “Noche con Los Almirantes” (Night with the Admirals) November 2, the third of the Day of the Dead’s traditional three nights.
