Calgary Flames Reveal 2019 Heritage Classic Uniform

The Calgary Flames have been on a retro kick recently, bringing back their old road red uniforms as their de facto regular home look for both the 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs and now into the upcoming 2019-20 regular season. This trend will go one step even further this year when the team plays in the Heritage Classic.

For the first time since 1994, the Calgary Flames will wear their original home white sweater design. A white base, red shoulders, and alternating red-and-yellow stripes on each sleeve and at the waist. The Flames wore this design for every game played in Calgary from their first puck drop on October 9, 1980 through two appearances in the Stanley Cup Final and right up until Pavel Bure’s double OT winner for the Vancouver Canucks in Game 7 of the 1994 Western Conference Quarterfinals.

The uniform will be worn for the 2019 Heritage Classic, the triennial outdoor game set aside for Western Canada locations — this year’s event will be between the Flames and the Winnipeg Jets, to be played in Regina, Saskatchewan on October 26.

In years past it’s been common for teams to wear their outdoor game uniforms for a handful of additional games later on in the season — hoping the Flames follow this pattern, the uniform is gorgeous and hopefully will be either their full-time road uniform going into 2020-21 or at least heavily factor in the inspiration for whatever the new design (if any at all) may be.

The Winnipeg Jets, Calgary’s opponent in the 2019 Heritage Classic, have since unveiled their uniforms for the game.
